A Fine Left-Hand Dagger Early 17th Century, Probably German, Italian Or English With sharply tapering double-edged blade of stiff diamond section, rectangular ricasso slightly recessed on both sides and incised with crowned 'Z' mark on one side, iron hilt with flat arched quillons widening towards the rounded tips, side-ring, and compressed barrel-shaped pommel with button, the guard and pommel encrusted in silver with fruiting foliage centred on a winged cherub's head on the side-ring and a differing feathered grotesque mask on each side of the pommel, spirally-twist grip bound with twisted brass wire between Turks' heads, and retaining traces of gilding in places 26.9 cm. blade Footnotes: Cf. a dagger in the Dr. Ernst-Joachim Rogahn Collection sold in these Rooms, 27 November 2013, lot 198.
