A GREEN-OVERLAY WHITE GLASS 'DRAGON' SNUFF BOTTLE Late Qing Dynasty Carved through the green glass to depict two five-clawed dragons cavorting above waves, the base with a two character zhishui mark, mother-of-pearl stopper. 6.5cm (2 5/8in) high (2). Footnotes: ęø…ę™šęœŸ 궅ē™½åœ°å„—ē¶ ę–™é¾ē“‹é¼»ē…™å£ŗ ć€Šę²»ę°“ć€‹ę¬¾ Provenance: an English private collection, listed in a valuation report compiled by Robert W.L. Kleiner & Co Ltd, 8 August 2013. The mark translates as 'control the waters' a reference perhaps fitting in relation to a dragon flying above waves, but perhaps also a reference to the importance of flood control and the maintenance of channels for shipping in China.
