A Composite Continental Half-Armour Early 17th Century And Later Comprising a close-helmet of so called 'Savoyard' type, with one-piece skull rising to a low comb (minor old holes), the base of the skull and recessed borders of the neck-defence each with a row of dome-headed lining rivets, tapering tubular plume-holder at the back of the skull, bevor shaped to the chin and with hook-catch on the right, mask-like visor pivoted at the same points as the pointed fall and cut-out with rectangular vision-slits and vertical 'breaths' above a chased moustache and small pierced 'mouth' (both with old split), secured to the bevor by a hook-catch, and with turned borders, gorget comprising two mainplates held together by a rivet and secured by a pin and keyhole catch, turned at the neck above a row of domed lining rivets, breast-plate with low medial ridge and flanged skirt, the latter with a staple on each side for the tassets, back-plate shaped to the back, vambraces each with turning joint and pauldrons (reversed) each of five upward-laping lames extending over the back, poleyns with bracelet couters with heart-shaped side-wings, tubular lower cannons, gauntlets each with flared cuff (finger lames missing), and detachable tassets each of nine downward-lapping lames, now with a pair of later full articulated leg harnesses each with fluted wing-shaped side-wing, and round-toed sabaton of seven overlapping plates, the edges mostly turned and with dome-headed rivets throughout (some old pitting and patination overall); together with a broadsword in 16th century style (grip wormed) Saleroom notices: Please note this lot does not come with a broadsword in 16th century style For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
