A Chinese export silver bowl Wang Hing, Hong Kong circa 1900, stamped WH, character mark and 90 Deep circular form, a wavy upper border featuring pierced floral and foliate decoration, the body embossed and chased with two dragons chasing the flaming pearl of wisdom among clouds, all on a spreading pedestal base, an armorial for 'Major General Villiers HATTON' engraved to the underside, height 12.5cm, diameter 21cm, weight 26.5oz. Footnotes: This is the crest from the armorial of Major General Villiers HATTON (1852-1914) born in London the eldest son of Lt. Col. Villiers La Touche HATTON (1824-1897) by Rosia Mary de BATHE (1830-1895). He was Commander of British Troops in South China (Hong Kong) 1903-1906. In 1897, he married Emily Burrall HOFFMAN (1861ā€“1942), an American, the daughter of Charles Burrall HOFFMAN (1821ā€“1892) by Harriet Bronson WILLETT (1839ā€“1911).
