A 13-Bore Pin-Fire Dougall 'Lockfast' Patent D.B. Sporting Gun By J.D. Dougall, Inventor & Patentee, 23 Gordon St., Glasgow, No.1676, Circa 1875 With rebrowned damascus twist sighted barrels (bores with some old pitting) signed in full in capitals along the rib (signature refreshed), breeches each engraved with a starburst around the pin aperture, tang engraved with symmetrical scrolling foliage, border engraved rounded action, signed back-action locks, dolphin hammers and trigger-guard decorated en suite, the first engraved 'DOUGALL'S PATENT LOCK-FAST' on a scroll, and with side-lever pierced and chequered for the thumb, the last engraved with the arms and motto of the City of Glasgow, figured butt with chequered grip and wooden butt-plate, and chequered detachable fore-end (minor chip), London proof marks 70.8 cm. barrel Footnotes: This gun incorporates James Dalziel Dougall's British Patent No. 1128 of 7 May 1860 Cf. another example (no.1566) sold in these Rooms, Antique Arms & Armour..., 22 April 2009, lot 292 Saleroom notices: Please note this is a very early example of the type with unusual lift-up lever For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
