A 25-Bore Flintlock Duelling Pistol By I. Rea Jun.r, London, Late 18th Century With swamped twist octagonal sighted barrel engraved 'LONDON' along the top flat and with a line of beadwork at the rear of the breech, foliate engraved tang with back-sight, flat bevelled lock (mainspring replaced) signed in capitals within a panel and lightly engraved with foliage on the stepped tail and on the cock, the latter with engraved safety-catch behind (top of steel bruised), figured full stock (repaired along the upper edge on one side) with rounded flat-sided butt, steel trigger-guard with large pineapple finial and engraved with a flower-head in a diamond framed by an oval on the bow, adjustable set trigger, turned ramrod-pipes (one replaced, some old light pitting), and later ramrod, Tower private and London proof marks, barrelsmith's mark of John 2 Rea 25.7 cm. barrel Footnotes: John 2 Rea was free of the Founders Company in 1790. He is recorded at 104 Minories, London between 1793 and 1797, and at 12 Little Alie Street between 1805 and 1808.
