A Rare Saxon Silver-Mounted Left-Hand Dagger Late 16th Century With robust tapering double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section changing to diamond section at the point and with central fuller over most of its length on each side extending from the fluted ricasso, iron hilt retaining traces of original blacking and comprising silver-mounted border engraved flat quillons with quatrefoil tips each decorated with scrolling foliage on the outside, side-ring with applied silver lion-mask, globular pommel with silver cap engraved en suite with the quillons and with later silver button, and original grip bound with twisted silver wire between incised longitudinal reinforcing-strips (one missing) retained by reeded ferrules 28 cm. blade Footnotes: Provenance The Saxon Electoral Armouries, Dresden Possibly one of the daggers of this type in the sale Parzellane und Waffen aus der Kgl.
