A BRONZE TRIPOD 'DRAGON FISH AND EAGLE' INCENSE BURNER 17th century The body cast in relief with a continuous scene of frothing waves beneath clouds, one side with a dragon fish rising from the waves, the other with an eagle sitting on a rock, all between two bands of floral scroll bordered with raised bands, the base with a recessed circular panel incised with a chi dragon carrying a lingzhzi fungus in its mouth among clouds, wood cover. 15cm (5 7/8in) diam. (2). Footnotes: 十äøƒäø–ē“€ 銅儩式ēˆ The eagle symbolises heroic behaviour with the character ying é¹°, a component for yingxiong 英雄 (hero). The carp or liyu éƉ魚 transforming into a dragon long 龍 is associated with the passing of the Imperial civil service examinations, hence forming the pun yutiao longmen é­šč·³é¾é–€.
