A pair of George III silver candlesticks Samuel Roberts, Sheffield 1773, first year of assay office Ionic columns, removable drip-pans with incurved gadroon rims, spreading square bases with bearded mask portrait oval reserves with bow tied ribbon husk above in relief, one oval reserve with engraved crest a dexter hand holding stalks of lint under bloom proper, loaded bases with turned wood inserts, height 25.5cm. (2) Footnotes: Provenance: With Mary Cooke Antiques Limited 2017 The Patrick and Mavis Walker Silver Collection This is possibly the crest associated with the arms of the THOMSON family, merchants of Glasgow and Logie, Scotland.
