A Cased Pair Of 28-Bore Flintlock Duelling Pistols By Wogdon & Barton, London, Circa 1800 With rebrowned swamped octagonal sighted barrels each signed in script along the top flat and engraved with a band of beadwork behind a gold line at the breech, silver fore-sights, gold-lined touch-holes, tangs each incorporating a back-sight and finely engraved with foliage involving a fasces and Britannia shield, signed detented flat bevelled locks each with safety-catch, gold-lined pan, and roller bearing on a ramp on the steel-spring, the internal working parts retaining most of their original blued and burnished finish, figured full stocks each with swelling flat-sided butt, iron trigger-guards each with pineapple finial, engraved en suite with the tangs on the bow, and retaining some original blueing, set triggers, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and original ramrods, one with threaded iron powder-measure and iron worm: in relined and refitted mahogany case with some accessories including brass-mounted powder-flask, London proof marks and barrelsmith's mark of Robert Wogdon 25.5 cm. barrels Footnotes: Provenance Sold in these rooms, Fine Antique Arms and Armour..., 20 April 2011, lot 458 The Penrose Collection Literature John O'Sullivan & De Witt Bailey, Robert Wogdon, Wogdon & Barton, John Barton, London Gunmakers 1764-1819, 2019, p. 183, Cat.
